1860's Decorated Wood Recipe Box (Mahantongo Valley)

Description: DECORATED RECIPE BOX Here is an absolutely Exquisite Hand Decorated Recipe Box. I bought this about 30 years ago in Pillow Pennsylvania at an Estate Auction. Pillow is right in the heart of the Mahotango Valley. This isn't the normal spider & petal decorations found on Mahantango Valley Furniture, but it's most definitely from there. It's got good age with a wonderful old age split on the base and a smaller one on the back. It's finger jointed. The lady who owned the Estate and was selling it, said she knew for sure it was her grandmothers. This lady was 88 in 1976 when I bought it. So, accounting for only 25 years per generations, her mom would have been 113 and grandmother 138. Take it that she bought it after she was married or even given as a wedding gift, that would put it around 1860-1875. She said when she was young it used to have RECIPES on the top. That is long worn off as well as most of the decorations on top. This is totally original and has never been touched, other than cleaned.
