Description: Nineteenth century carte de visite photograph showing a Japanese woman. She is seated next to a crudely made plant stand or candle stand on which sits a bonsai tree. She holds a folded up umbrella in one hand. She wears a kimono and sandals. One sleeve of her kimono is lying in such as way that it is obvious that her arm on that side is missing. The cdv measures 4 inches by 2 7/16 inches. The top corner tips of the mat are trimmed in period to expedite insertion in an album. On the back is written in ink, "For Mother" and "Miné." The overall condition is excellent with some slight age toning to the back. This item is #4047.
