Printed and published by John Irving Lonsdale, 1859. 8vo. iv, [5]104pp. Original publisher's blindstamped green cloth, lettered in gilt to upper board. Very minor shelfwear, spine a trifle dulled. Internally clean and crisp. A fine copy of the first edition of a collection of poems by a female, presumably Scottish, author. The poems, though predominantly devotional do include some notable curiosities such as; 'Lines on Sir J. Franklin's Expedition' commemorating the arctic explorer's final fateful voyage, an attempt to traverse the Northwest Passage; 'On the Comet of 1858', and two compositions celebrating the successful laying of the first transatlantic telegraph cable. ~ About Antiquates We’re based in the heart of the Dorset countryside, with an antiquarian bookshop in Wareham, housed within a beautiful Grade II Listed Georgian Building, we also travel far and wide to buy, sell and advise on rare books.
