Description: I have for sale an 1859, pre Civil War, award medal from the New York State Agricultural Society. The Society was founded in 1832 and still exist. The medal is silver, it is 2 1/8 inch in diameter and in circulated condition with a spot on the reverse. This medal is listed in the Julian catalog as AM-61. This medal was struck outside the U.S. mint at the Birmingham Mint in London, England by the engraver named Taylor. The obverse shows a standing female with cornucopia in left hand and a wreath in her right hand. Baled straw is in the background. The word CERES is at the bottom rim. Also, at the bottom rim in tiny letters it reads TAYLOR - BIRM. The reverse at the rim reads NEW YORK STATE AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY with the year 1859 engraved at the bottom rim. In the center, inside a wreath, it is engraved AWARDED - TO - W.H. TOWERS - FOR - COMPOUND COUGH CREAM - AND - CHOLERA CORDIAL. Please see more in my EBAY STORE at TE Collectables. (18,381)
