Book was published in Cincinnati, Ohio by Applegate & Company, 1857. This is the very scarce and collectible First Printing of the First Edition with date of 1857 on the title page! This book came out of the library of Frank C. Deering. Frank Cutter Deering was a financier and collector of Americana. He was one of the great collectors of early Americana. He acquired many rare Western narratives, of which, this book listed on ebay is one. He took especial pride in fine bindings, as you can see by this book. This is a beautifully bound book! Book is quarter-bound in dark blue leather with leather tips. The spine five raised bands and has gold lettering and fancy gold compartment designs. Covers are firmly attached with no cracking or splitting of gutter or hinges. Binding remains solid and in very good condition. Pages are tightly bound (420 pages) with some scattered foxing. The first few and last few pages have the most foxing. Most pages are clean with no foxing. Has decorative endpages. Ownership sticker of Frank C. Deering on inside of front cover. Book remains in very good condition. Quite collectible! A wonderful book on exploration, early settlers, Indians and early history of America. Would make a super addition to a collection.
