Tappan became a devout Christian after his experience being shipwrecked, and served for many years as President of the American Tract Society, amongst other endeavors. Corners and large part of front fore-edge worn down to the board. Top and bottom of spine chipped. Considerable sun-fading, a little staining. Pages yellowed with scattered foxing, smudges, minor blemishes, a small tear. Spine somewhat slanted, binding has some cracking, remains serviceable.
