Description: Wonderful vintage collectible original coastal engraving of The Walls of Southampton. Piece was created by one of England's finest topographical artists and engravers James Charles Armytage (1802-1897) from a drawing on the spot by William Henry Bartlett (1809-1854), who was one of the foremost illustrators of topography of his generation. Produced for "The Ports, Harbours, Watering Places and Picturesque Scenery of Great Britain" by William Finden (1787-1852) and Edward Finden (1791-1857) and published for them by George Virgue in London in 1842. This antique engraved image measures 5 inches tall x 7-1/4 inches wide with full margins of over 1-1/2 inches. Engraving has both W.H. Bartlett's and J.C. Armytage's names at the bottom of the piece. Engraving is uncolored and in original condition. There is no damage or wear.
