The items I will be selling from this point on are being sold from my estate and from the estates of friends and relatives. This 1837 Hard Times Mint Drop token belonged to a friend on mine that recently passed away. He had a coin token collection put together in the 1950's & 1960's of about fifty pieces that I will be selling over the next couple months in my other listings. I am not an expert on these tokens but will do my best to describe those I sell. This 1837 Hard Times Mint Drop token is excellent overall and has somewhat toned with age (see photos). It was well struck, has excellent detail and measures approximately 28mm in diameter (see photos). The reverse is lettered, "BENTONIAN CURRENCY / MINT DROP / 1837" (see photos). Mint drop was a satiric nickname for new lighter weight gold coins introduced as a result of a law passed in 1834. This is a very nice/clean original 1837 Hard Times Mint Drop token that would be excellent addition to a token or coin collection. Great opportunity for the novelty or oddity coin collector.
