Description: This listing is for a very early bound printing of "A Visit From St. Nicholas," dated 1837. This rare printing is one of the earliest and no doubt the largest, measuring 11 x 14.5 inches with 416 pages. Construction is hardcover, floral lithoed paper over boards with leather spine and corners. The poem is accompanied by a humorous introductory paragraph with one of the first author attributions to Clement C. Moore. The book is about literature and fine arts in 1837, so it makes for interesting reading. At 187 years old, it is in good/acceptable condition overall, given rarity. Most of the leather is worn off the spine and the hinges were repaired, but the covers present reasonably well. Except for the first few pages, most pages are surprisingly clean with scattered light foxing and staining in the lower right corner. Binding is tight. The poem is on page 207.
