An epistolary novel following an Irish exile who has left for England, then to America, due to his involvement in political uprisings, where he later has daughter with a fellow exile. After a point, this novel primarily follows this daughter, Rossanna, as she enters into society in London, and finds her name tarred by her father's reputation.Elizabeth Gunning was an early modern author and translator, known in particular for her French to English translations. She wrote eleven novels from 1794 to 1815, including 'Lord Fitzhenry', 'The Farmer's Boy', and 'Family Stories; or Evenings at my Grandmother's'. Register runs as:Volume I; A4, B-N2, O2. Externally, significant rubbing to the spines, joints, and extremities. A small amount of loss to the binding to the rear boards of Volumes II and III. A mark to the front board of Volume II. Joints are starting. Containing a contemporary ink inscription to the front free-endpaper of Volume III. Internally, hinges are strained, remaining binding is firm. Pages are generally bright and clean. Volume II lacks one leaf.
