Description: "Gasparo in Romae."A genuine antique print, probably 17th century, and probably after Gaspard Dughet. I am basing the description above of this scarce print on a similar engraving which is described in the British Museum. They have an engraving (registration number 1877, 0811. 722) also titled "Gasparo in Romae" of a very similar size and design, though the image itself is different. They describe it as 'French School', and date it 1635 - 1700. They say it is after Gaspard Dughet. Dughet (1615 - 1675) was a French painter born in Rome. His sister married Nicolas Poussin, and Dughet had lessons from the Master c1635. For this reason, he is also known as Gaspard Poussin. The image on the print I am offering fits the above description very well. An Italian landscape, engraved on laid paper (see last photo), with lovely old handcolouring.Very scarce - I can find no more online. Size: the sheet measures approx. 45cms x 31cms including margins.Condition: Small tears along the top edge. Hole in the upper right hand margin. The image very slightly stained and marked in the sky area, but generally in a good condition. Please study the photographs.
