Very heavy and well-cast, bearing a branches of foliage and flowers as well as a rider, of highly stylized kui encircling the waist, all containing key, fret patterns. The underside marked with ancient seal script within the recessed foot. The patterns are deep and bold, contrasted by the subtle curves of the smooth spaces between the lappets. The entirety is most harmonious and tactilely pleasing. The vase is further adorned with a finely cast handle. Exceptionally heavy subject, indication of the very fine quality of material used in creating this superb piece. The surface bears a magnificent patina, further augmented with rich coloration which we believe is lacquer, commonly seen on Yuan and Ming bronzes to approximate ancient patinas.
