Description: Welcome to Earlycoppercoins! I am the owner, Shawn A. Yancey, and I am a member of ANA and Early American Coppers, EAC #4647. I am pleased to offer the following item: From the New Cumberland Collection of 1793-1814 US large cents, complete by Sheldon Variety S-1 through S-295 including several NC varieties! NCC-195: 1798 S-180 Draped Bust, Style 2 Hair, R5+, EAC VGTen net GFour. My photos do a poor job of showing the details on this coin due to the extremely dark color, but those details are VG-Fine with plenty of hair definition and a full reverse. The color is dark brown, nearly black, due to light granularity that also manifests with some green corrosion. This certainly could have been a ground recovery piece. Plenty of details remain to identify the variety, and the strong rim break cud above TATE on the reverse certainly pins down the S-180 attribution. My EAC grade is Ten net Four. Ex-Jim Long via Ed Hipps 02/11/04. Thank you for checking out this item! Make sure you add it to your watchlist and also subscribe to my eBay store to receive newsletters and promotions!
