Description: [Christianity, Religion] ~ WISHART, William The certain and unchangeable Difference betwixt Moral Good and Evil. A sermon Preach'd before the societies for Reformation of Manners, at saltershall; on Monday the 3rd of July, 1732 London. Printed for Eman. Matthews, 1732. 8vo. 36pp. Disbound. Foxed. A sermon on Isaiah, V, 20 delivered by Church of Scotland minister William Wishart (1691/21753) before the Society for the Reformation of Manners. In both this address and the earlier Charity the end of the commandment (London, 1731), Wishart argues that righteousness must be engendered through persuasion and by example, that our natural disposition is easily corrupted, though despite this religious instruction commonly jeopardises morality and often only indoctrinates the young with sectarian prejudice rather than rational understanding. In this copy the author's name appears on the title page in upper case italics; a variant published by Matthews the same year prints the author's name in Roman type.
