Description: Large, original, framed map by Hondius (1606) of Cuba, Hispaniola, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, and Margarita Island. 26" x 21". A lovely, original, hand-colored compilation of islands in the Gulf of Mexico with Cuba (with an inset of Havana) and Hispaniola (modern-day Haiti and the Dominican Republic) drawn larger and Jamaica, Puerto Rico (depicted as S. Ioannis) and Isla Margarita (off the coast of modern-day Venezuela) inset to the left. In the waters around the islands are fanciful drawings of sea monsters, flying fish, and even galleons. There is minor foxing, the image very well framed, and even visible from both sides with the reverse text written in French, as maps like these were published in books.
