Description: Periodically we experience problems with our scanner. Today is one of those days. Depending upon which view you choose, the first scan will show horizontal lines and/or cross hatching marks. Rest assured, these are not on the card itself. Usually scanning problems are confined to color pictures but today it's "advanced" to black and white! (You will note that the second scan (reverse side of the card) exhibits none of these problems.)For the Baseball Hobbyist. . .1979 Metallic Creations Trading Card[#14] - WILLIE MAYS ~ New York GiantsScarce Limited Edition Oversized Card - Slightly Trimmed*In 1979, Metallic Creations of El Monte, California, issued a series of metal statues accompanied by oversized trading cards. We have no statues to sell - only a select few of the trading cards. The artwork on all cards (except Gehrig and Guidry) was done by Payette. Those cards were the work of P. Herek. The art format is quite similar to that employed, starting a year later, by the Perez-Steele Galleries in its classic Baseball Hall of Fame postcard set. The card is unnumbered but The Standard Catalog of Vintage Baseball Cards has assigned numbers based upon arranging the player names in alphabetical order: Aaron [#1], Carew [#2], etc. It features the player's facsimile autograph.*Card size was generally advertised to be 3-5/8" by 5"; however, this card may have been trimmed to 3-5/8" X 4-7/8". It fits in standard 4-pocket collector pages designed for older style postcards with full card coverage. Frankly, there is some difference of opinion as to the size of these cards; in fact, they may vary somewhat from card to card. To be safe, we are calling this TRIMMED.Five thousand (5,000) of each card was the reported production but the relative scarcity of these cards seems to indicate this figure to have been the goal of Metallic Creations, a short-lived company. As may be seen from the scans, this is an attractive card - and reasonably scarce. Check out how few are available on eBay.*Condition: Excellent or better BUT TRIMMED SLIGHTLY - this is the actual card the buyer will receive*ANY NUMBER of single cards (up to and including 8X10 inches in size) will ship for the USPS Ground Advantage rate IF the buyer will request and wait for a combined invoice before paying. eBay standard envelope is another option within its limitations.
