Description: For your consideration is a stackable stoneware canning jar. This jar was originally advertised as holding 1/2 of a gallon. Using a very intense light, I was able to make out enough of the bottom marking to assure myself this jar is a Macomb Pottery product. Stoneware canning jars with this type of closure, received a patent on January 24, 1899. On the brown glaze is very faint and difficult to read writing that reads: THE STONE MASON PATENT APPLIED FOR. The writing on the brown glaze, leads me to believe this jar was manufactured before the Patent was issued (January 24, 1899). The total height is approximately 7" and from the surface it is sitting on, is approximately 6 1/8". The bottom diameter is approximately 5 5/8". This canning jar is an old item (pre1899) that was used. It has cracks and chips. On the bottom, is a lengthy dryline caused by it being kiln fired, before it was completely dry. Around the bottom edge are several short and very tight hairlines starting at the bottom and going up the side; the longest of these hairlines is approximately 1 1/2" long. Around the bottom edge are minor chips. On the sides, are places where air bubbles swelled up burst during kiln firing. On the shoulder, are minor to insignificant chips. Next to the lid are two glaze skips. Please, carefully examine the pictures. as the pictures are part of the description.Whenever it is practical, I will combine shipping.
