Description: Scott Catalog Haiti #117, the 5 Centime pale blue with the red hand stamp. This issue required "hard money" or gold to be used on international mail. The cover has been roughly opened at top and repaired with what looks like Fold-O-Hinges that were popular in the 1940s & 1950s. The postage stamp does not seem to be effected by the opening. The ship used was the Graecia, part of the Hamburg American Line. This and a few other ships were part of Hamburg's Atlas tourist service that travelled to and from New York to Central American and Caribbean waters. Despite the use to New York, there are no back stamp receiving marks on the back side of the cover.
